It was opening day in my part this morning and I was fortunate enough to get on some birds. At around 6:45, I called a longbeard up to about 10 yards to my right, but I wasn't set up very well and I couldn't get a good shot a him until he moved to my left a little bit. Then the dang bird started putting and moving away from me pretty quick. I made the stupid mistake of trying to rush things and I tried to swing my gun to the turkey but my gun caught some branches and I ended up missing the bird...
After a 5 minute battle with turkey depression, I decided to try to try to get in front of the bird since i knew the general direction he had flown. After working my way around the bird, I set up and clucked once and he rattled my head with a gobble about 60 yards away! After that he walked right down my gun barrel! He may have one the first battle but I won the war!
9.5" beard, 1 1/8 spurs, 21lbs 8oz.
