Title: Mid South Carolina
Post by: DelDawg on March 29, 2014, 01:33:33 PM
Went out this morning and heard nothing.
Hoping it was the weather, however I don't have any birds on camera for 2 weeks now.
2 weeks ago had birds in full strut with hens.

I hunt near Ridgeway, SC (just outside of Columbia)

Hunted my property this morning, heard 3 birds but they quit after they hit the ground.

Better than my last post.

Repeat of my first post, heard nothing.

Anybody else in the midlands got any reports?

Hearing anything, if so time frame?
Seeing anything, types of terrain your hunting when are you seeing them?

Went to York county and hunted 2 days with my 10 year old son on the 17th and 18th.  Good gobbling activity on the 17th.  Called in 3 long beards at 9 am that we had been messing with all morning.  They didn't start gobbling until 7 am, but would answer every time I called.  He killed the first one that came around the corner.  Good bird with 1 5/16 spurs.

They gobbled good on the 18th as well, but didn't kill any.  Weather moved in late afternoon and we called it a trip.  I like some Piedmont birds.

Honestly, I have heard birds just about every day that I have been this year, if the weather has been good.  But I have only hunted about 30 days this year, due to work and other issues.

I know where Ridgeway is, I use to live there fairly close to the gold mine.

Thanks for the response, glad you had some success.
I was up on my property yesterday morning and still nothing.
No sign as well, frustrating that you can get them on camera 2 weeks before the season and then nothing.
Oh well that why I like chasing them!
