Title: first tom of the season
Post by: loner on March 28, 2014, 11:34:34 AM
this tom went down at 7.00 AM after another tom roosted behind me flew down in front of me to approaching tom and he came running at full strut to let him know who was the dominate bird.he weighted 22#,had 7/8" thick spurs and 9 7/8" beard.after walking about a mile to get there and back out with him in the vest,i was about done in.

You said you walked a mile... Was this public land? Just curious...

Seems like 90% of the people on these forums hunts private land  :turkey2:

I hunt strictly public land and have a hard time relating to. Well you know... "Gobbler#2 down, Gobbler#3 down, Gobbler#4 down"...

Just nice to read a turkey hunting story that I can relate to which doesn't happen much these day lol

no,private land.i am 72 and pretty much only hunt 240 acres i grew up on.i hunted nothing but public land for many years and learned that after 10.00AM to go after hunters left to go crappie fishing was best time to hunt. ;D
