Title: Finally broke down and bought a vest
Post by: bowmike on March 28, 2014, 08:28:30 AM
Stopped at gander on the way home from work, looking for Hevi Shot. I walked by the turkey vest and saw the Ol' Tom Time & Motion vest.  I loved the look and layout of it. Very light weight with magnetic clips on the seat. Has nice fold out zip pockets with insides set up for, 5 mouth calls, 5 shells, knife and pen. internal magnetic and zipper closing pouches for pot calls, front mesh areas for "in the hunt" mouth call storage,  front pocket for gloves and such, two stretchy chords for locator calls. rear pouch.

has a magnetic locking flop down seat, and a removable spine pad for resting against a tree. It is in Real Tree Extra.

Price was 59.99. Not sure if that was a mess up or not, but it worked for me. Looked at other places online, and they were between 90-150 bucks.

I never wanted one but as my amount of calls and such increase, I don't want to loose them. Did an inventory check and I have 7 mouth calls, 2 box calls, a pot call, a gobble call, a spring tension/push box call. I just need an owl and a crow call to fill the vest LOL.

I think it will be nice to just have everything in the vest and grab and go. Wll be weird but I think it will be well worth the money.

Well, after owning 4 or 5 vest over the years I consider it standard equipment.  You are right it sure is nice to grab you vest vs grab all you stuff.

You won't regret buying it they just make getting to things much more simple and the seat is always a plus

I didn't think I needed a vest until I bought mine. I bought the Walmart turkey thug vest. Better than no vest. I think you got a good deal on yours. Grab and go is always good!

I have 3 at the house I have purchased over the years.  I have one that has some calls that I keep as a backup vest and then I have my primary vest that I keep by the door that has my favorites in it.  At the end if the season I clean/condition all my calls and hang the vest in the closet til next season as I don't have to go looking for things.
Sounds like you got a good deal.

I had a Walmart vest... used it for a little while.. but didn't like the bulk.  So I switched to a fanny pack belt type deal. That was good, but hard to get to anything on the fly.

So I was also in Gander last week and purchased that same ol tom vest.  Thought I would give the vest another try. looked like a lightweight, cool vest.  That vest is not as bulky, let's you carry just enough stuff...but not too much. I found with the other vest with more storage you feel the need to carry a bunch of extra junk you really won't use.   Plus I'm rarely more than .5 mile away from my truck.

Love the magnetic seat.

I actually purchased the Ol' Tom time & motion vest a couple weeks ago at bass pro. Really thought I liked it. Got to swapping everything over one night and decided real quick that I didn't like it. If you put strikers in the pockets where they go your front pockets get real stiff. Also didn't like not having some type of pocket that would be easier to access without having to unzip a fold out pocket all the way around. In the end I put everything back in my old vest and got my money back on the new one.
