Was at the store a few weeks ago and saw a few boxes of Heavyweight 7s in 20 gauge, so I bought a box to try in my sons turkey gun.. A Remington 1100 youth 20 with a .562 Hastings choke. His gun has shot Winchester 5s decent and always done a good job for us both, and in my excitement to try the 7s, I didn't even think about shooting it through the Hastings choke! I shot 3 shots through it and was amazed at how it shot, It wasn't till a couple days later I remembered that's a lead only choke.. Is it ruined now and what will the heavyweight shot do to that choke? Like I said, it shot amazing but I don't want to damage the gun or the choke..
You should be fine... I have shot HEVI though many chokes that say "lead only" If you are concerned.. pick up a Jelly Head or something like that. But stick with #7 Hevi!
No worries bud, your good to go. Most of the lead only chokes are marked such so people won't shoot waterfowl shell through them
As stated above you have no worry about that. I have many Hastings chokes that have shot h-13 and Fed HW . DO NOT SHOOT STEEL in them.
Thanks guys :thanks:! Huge relief to hear that. I love :z-flirtysmile3: the way it shoots with those loads. No worry of me shooting any steel through it though, Not a waterfowl hunter.
I shoot fed HW 7's through my Hastings .665. Shot 50+. No worries, shoots fantastic.
