Just bought a sbe2 from dunn's. Need to buy a new choke. Already bought some xr's in 6, waiting to find some 5's. What choke would you suggest? I had a jellyhead in my franchi 912 and liked it.
Oh by the way it has a 26 inch barrel and will be shooting 3 1/2's. Thanks, Jesse
Almost can't go wrong with a jellyhead... Mine did pretty good with the original xrs
.650 call William at sumtoy. excellent in mine :happy0064:
If your sticking with lead then kicks are hard to beat. I shoot a Rob Roberts 655 out of mine but with lead the 660 is prob a better option. My 655 shoots the longbeard 5 and 6 pretty sweet and really shoot the magblends well.
IMO kicks makes the best lead choke period.
thanks for all the replies. trying to find a choke that has a good even pattern. would like to find one that puts a lot of shot in a 15" circle. thanks again
I shoot a Rhino (.660) in my SBE 2 with very good results.
Another vote for Rob Roberts. I'm shooting his Final Strut .650 in my SBE II. Every barrel will be different but that was the magic number with mine.

Hey Jesse,
Congratulations on your new Benelli. They are great guns and I think you also chose the perfect barrel length. As you know, that gun has a relatively tight bore compared to many others. I think you'll find those #6s pattern better than the #5s though that gun.
There are a few chokes that I've found to do well in my Benellis. When they are available, the Wright's #3 with a .650 e.d. is an excellent choice, as is the JEB's .655 and the SSX .643.
As you know that gun has a chrome bore and can appear clean when in reality it's not. I'd recommend that you give it a good cleaning prior to taking it to the range. Those guns will seeming shoot forever no matter how dirty but at least my Bennellis pattern much better when they have clean bores.
Best of luck to you this spring with your new gun.
Thanks,
Clark
+1 on the Rob Roberts choke. I sent my SBE2 to them for pattern analysis and to have the forcing cone lengthened. They had the shotgun back to me within a week and I cannot believe he difference. The pattern is much more evenly distributed. I had been using the Kick's and also a Hevi brand choke with decent results, but the RR choke easily tops them. If you give them a call and tell them what load you're shooting, they will give you their recommendation.
did you notice any difference in your gun after having the forcing cone worked on? have thought about having that done maybe this summer. want to wait till after spring gobbler
870 what choke construction you end up with?
I shoot a Rhino .670. Shot this pattern yesterday while checking my red dot.

foreman, how big of an area is that? how far was the shot. looks good. was that thru a benelli? thanks, jesse
I could be wrong :bike2: but that looks like a very nice mag blend pattern
It's a SBE 2 24", Rhino .670, 3.5" Nitro 2 7/16 oz. #7's. I get high 320's to low 340's with this set-up in a 10" circle at 40 yards. The picture above was from when I shot one time to check my zero on my red dot. That was from 40 yards. Here's a picture of last years check. I am using the Hevi13 choke in my Super Vinci
Well I was way off on that one :TooFunny: Still a great pattern thanks for sharing Foreman
My SBE 2 prefers a dirty barrel. 4-6 shots is when it does the best.

Hey Jesse,
If I had to make a quick decision, I'd choose the SSX. That's what I used in my SBEII and what I use in my Vinci.
Thanks,
Clark
might have to give you a call tomorrow and order one. give it a shot. is see you need to clean it well the first time? thanks, jesse

Hey Jesse,
It has a light coat of oil on and in it and it's always a good idea to clean it thoroughly prior to shooting it.
Thanks,
Clark

Sorry guys, I wasn't on here for a few days. The constriction is .655 in the RR choke. I have the 24" barrel and shoot 3.5" mag blends.
Since all of the work was done at the same time, I couldn't honestly say how much of a difference honing the forcing cone made. All I know is that altogether, I'm extremely happy.
well ordered a ssx from clark and got to shoot it today. I am very pleased with the pattern, it will definitely kill some turkeys. I shot it from 30 yards and was using xr 3 1/2 #6's. I was shooting at some zombie turkey heads. hahaha. bought them so my daughter would have something to shoot at, it's all they had at wally world. she is 10 and plan on taking her youth day next weekend. I can not wait to get out with this new gun and kill some birds. I have the first week off and plan to be out every day. wife is very happy about that. :turkey2:
tried to post a pic, but need to figure out how to resize the pic. it is too big.
resizing the picture, it actually cropped some of the pic off. but, you can see the damage. jesse
Appears to be shooting a little low? did you shoot a larger target and see where the core of the pattern was?
My sbe2 shoots very well with a jellyhead and any hevi shot type ammo I have tried, all 3 and 3.5 inch patterns with 6 hevi were approaching 200 in a ten and several we well over, 220s was best if I remember correctly with 2 oz hevi 6s.
Best thing is the gun shoots dead on point of aim and the patterns are even and no holes, I guess I could get better numbers with some tinkering but I have no need to, I have seen a couple birds killed with it past 50, clients I was guiding that got in a hurry, but stoned them anyway!!!
I hunt with a bow mostly so I have a hand full of various hevi type rounds left all in 6 shot that I will use up before likely trying longbeards!
wasn't aiming for the head or circle. aiming at the waddle area. still a little low, but not to bad. maybe the week I am off, I will shoot it a couple of more times at a bigger piece of paper. I am pleased with it though. the paper is 11" by 11". the picture does not show the whole piece. In the lower half of the paper, there was over 200 holes. just need to find some more xr's.
