Title: Sun Optics Saddle Mount
Post by: Punisher on March 15, 2014, 10:59:35 PM
Has anyone tried one of these on a Remington 870 twenty gauge?  They look nice, plus they look like they sit low on the receiver.  Wanting to get some opinions.

I put one on a Mossberg 500.  The fit and finish was excellent.  Every gun requires a little different fit though and I can't speak to the one for the Remington.  It is a bit bulky compared to drilling and installing a base.

I considered these types of scope-mounts before I D/T the old 870. Remington 12 & 20s take the same mount, my gun-dealer tells me. The mount placed the center-line of the scope higher than my cheek-weld to a field-gun stock. I would have to added something padded to the stock comb to get my eye centered in the scope.

Have a serious look at them, it may very well work as you want it to.

Used one last season on an 870 12 ga. with good results.  Never tried one on a 20 ga. though.

I currently use an aimtech saddle mount on my 870 20 gauge, and it is solid, but sits high since you can see the bead under the saddle mount. For those of you that have used the sun optics saddle mount, can you see the bead under this mount or is it contoured to the receiver tightly?? Just wondering as it may help some with some sights running out of adjustment for being too tall on the aimtech style saddle?

No you can not see under the mount.  That's why it sits lower to the receiver than the others.
