Title: 535TK
Post by: Fishbamboo on March 15, 2014, 04:20:53 PM
Hi, I got a 535 TK for Christmas, it says it has a XX full choke. How big should the pattern be at 35 yards? I had very few hits on a Remington turkey target.   Thanks, Mike

you will have to shoot it to tell how big it will be, you need at least a 30 inch x 30 inch piece of paper to see where your main pattern is hitting, very few hits on a rem turkey target might be because you were on the fringe of your pattern.  Get yourself some paper or cardboard and a Box of Winchester Longbeard XR #5 shot.  then put a turkey target on your paper and shoot.  You will see where your biggest pattern is and then adjust your sights or point of aim to put the main pattern over your turkey target.  If you don't have any sights buy some aftermarket sights or put a red dot or scope on it, to be able to adjust your Point of Aim.  When you finish your Point of Aim should be your point of impact.  Shoot at the yardage that you plan to kill a turkey at.  40 yards would be a good number.  (Before you do all that put a target up about 12 yards away and put a 1" square on it.  Take some 2 3/4" shells and shoot at the square, adjust your sights until you can shoot out the square, then you will be ready to do the above patterning procedure and will not waste so many expensive shells, or take more of a beating in recoil than you have to.  Clean your barrel at least every 3 shots.  I use to clean my barrel every shot but I don't anymore seems to work good for me.)  Good Luck, post back and let me know how you did.

Thank you for the reply, I will do what you said. I bought a box of Federal  Mag. Turkey loads, 4 shot. I also bought a Bushnell First Strike Reflex Red dot sight.. I expected the pattern to be a lot tighter than it is. Again thanks, Mike

I think you made a good choice with the red dot sight, I have never had a turkey gun that I didn't have to adjust the POI.
