Title: Should I give HeviShot a try again
Post by: Gobblers_nightmare on March 15, 2014, 03:36:45 PM
I tried HeviShot early on, but gave it up because of the flyers.  Although I got some nice patterns, I was getting flyers into the meat, even at 20 yards.  At that time the shot looked more like shrapnel than shot, misformed and kinda flat.  Just wondering if they ever got around to making them round?  I've been shooting Federal Premium Mag-Shok #5's.  Of course, I picked up a couple boxes of the new Longbeard XR's, and I'm going to run both kinds through every tube I've got.  Should I pick up some kind of hevishot and give it a try in a shootoff?  If yes, what kind do you suggest?

Hevi-Shot is still irregular shape snowman pellets.

I think when you shoot long beards they will give you something to think about.  with a SX3 LB #5's at 40 yards out of a .665 choke the pattern is so tight I can't hunt with it.  If I didn't have so many supreme HV #5's I would buy a more open choke and shoot long beards.  I would shoot the LB's first and you may not have to do much shooting.
