Title: Huntings Not For Everybody?
Post by: guesswho on March 14, 2011, 02:18:49 PM
I've always heard that huntings not for everybody, and I know there of people out there that wouldn't enjoy it.    So that got me to thinking, I can't think of a single kid that I've taken hunting that didn't enjoy it.   And I have taken many over the years, some from non hunting families.  Have any of you ever taken someone for the first time who just didn't like it?

Anyone who has ever gone with me on one of those "good" days where we got on birds, or at least heard them, has enjoyed it and gone back. I have taken a few people on those "bad" days where birds were quiet and never showed up, and they just saw it as a waste of time and boring. Those good days wouldn't be so good if there were no "bad" or "boring" hunts. Personally, every chance I get to go is a good day...but I can understand someone not enjoying a simple day in the woods.

This post reminds me of my dad. When I talk about hunting, he always says "I do my hunting at Krogers"

He told me my grandpa was a hunter but just never took him as a kid. He couldn't kill a field mouse if he had too - hunting is not for everyone, but it is for me!!

My wife does not really like it much.  I took her out deer hunting.  We had a nice double ladder stand, good weather and saw a lot of deer, but she still didnt like it.  She hates to sit still, so turkey hunting is definately out for her.  She does like to go goose hunting though, because she can talk and move in the blind.

I took a kid 3 years ago and he did not care for it.  I called a bearded hen (legal in WI) and he shot it.  He had other things on his mind like prom, girls, and cars.  I don't think he has been in the woods since that day.

I took a 11 year old kid Sunday morning for the Louisiana youth hunt. We didn't see or hear any turkeys........But I called up 2 different crows with my crow call & and little feller missed 'em both, but the little dude was TICKELED! He said as soon as he got home he was gona try and do it on his on. That was the first animal he had ever seen called to the gun. He's hooked!

Some times it just has to hit a person right. I good friend of mine didn't care for fishing, or hunting at 17. I went with his brother all the time and he stayed home and shot basketball. One day another friend took him and they got in a raft in a pond. Anyway, Rusty hooked about a 5 pounder that pulled them around the pond and he was hooked. Even bought a boat later and fished tournaments.
