Title: Beretta A400 Xplor barrel ?
Post by: chrmayo on March 11, 2014, 04:52:25 PM
Thinking about trading for an A400 Xplor. It has a 30" barrel. Read up on it and says it has a Steelium barrel? The 30" is longer than what I want but thought if I could get it for the price I want I may be able to send to William at Sumtoy or someone else and have the barrel cut to 25-26" and rethreaded. Not sure if it is worth it but Im just tossing the idea around. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Chris

We have cut a few of them off to get them thin chokes out of them.  It is not a problem to do.

William, what is the problem with the a400 chokes? Have a friend about to purchase one so this would be good info to relay to him.

Thanks!

Just THIN  I have seen the swell up in the barrels.  Just cut off a barrel with a Factory choke swelled and stuck.  Good gun just not big fan of the chokes.  JUST KEEP EYE ON THE CHOKE TO MAKE SURE IT IS NOT SWELLING.  If you do this then you will be just fine.

Carlson made a very nice heavyshot tube for me and have had great success out to 45 yards

I forgot to mention that the only tradeoff is that the restriction is slightly more open to compensate for the thin wall tube.

This is true i was actually thinking about just ordering another barrel for mine but its like 800 which is kinda ridiculous, but i feel if you chop it up your only gonna want this as a turkey gun as some of the performance of the barrel will be lost. Im not a huge fan of the thin walled chokes as well, but ive found for duck hunting muller makes awesome choke that will withstand it all. Breilys on the other hand was not very happy with, was warping the choke after one barrel burner one morning. As far a turkey chokes ive been super pleased with the Kicks GT .670 with Win double x. 3, 1/2 #6  gonna actually try to new longbeard before too long. Hopes this helps
