Title: Need to ask y'all something
Post by: Bama turkey hunter on March 08, 2014, 08:34:11 PM
I shoot a 870 with a 26 in barrel with a rhino 660 . I'm shooting nitros 3 1/2 in 2 1/4 oz 4x5x7 .load h510h my pattern looks all blotched up  . Do y'all think I need a more open choke to even my pattern out . Like a 665 or a 670 .

I'm not gonna tell you it would be the ticket but I shoot the the same load out of a jelly head 665 and have no complaints.

You may be a bit over-choked with those #4 and #5 pellets trying to squeeze thru there.  Moving to a bit more open tube like Spring Fever mentioned should work out well.

I shoot that out of my (23") 870 and its great, not sure if thats due to my barrel being 3" shorter than yours.

Patchy patterns are often a sign of being over choked. I would move to a .665 or .670.

I think I'll try a 665 and see how it does
