Title: Got a little bit of a scare today
Post by: OLE RASPY on March 13, 2011, 10:48:58 PM
I was up on my mothers house cleaning her gutters out and was taking a little break soaking up the sunshine and notice that her 80 year old neighbor (one of the guys i turkey hunt on to) left his cattle gate open and there was cows in the field, then i looked down towards the woods (thinking he might be walking checking his cows) and saw his 4-wheeler was turned over on its side in a creek.Needless to say i got off that roof pretty quick jumped on my 4-wheeler and went to the creek.Nobody was around. So i went to his house and his car was gone.So i went back and pulled his 4-wheeler out of the water and mud for him.I was thinking the whole time maybe he got hurt and had a ambulance to come and get him. Had me worried. This guy gets around as good as i do at age 80 so that eased the worrying up a little but u never know.I went back to my mothers house and bout 30 minutes later he came driving by so i gave him a little time to get home and went to see him.He was fine.Told him what happenend and he said well im sorry it scared u but thanks for pulling my fourwheeler out the ditch for me.He was trying to cross the ditch to get to a calve that the mother had abandoned to bottle feed it and his 4 wheeler slid of the bank. He was more worried bout leaving his gate openend more than anything. He said i cant believe i left that gate open all my cows could have gotten out and somebody could have hit them.Anyway he thanked me several times and as i got ready to leave he said hey u turkey hunting this time i said well i plan on it and he said have at it u got the run of this place as always i said well THANK YOU.He said but i havent seen any turkeys back there this year but im sure there still around.I said yeah they still there. This is funny here, he said by the way right up the road here this old lady that lives in the sand stone house(i said yeah) he said man she had about 30 turkeys in that field behind her house yesterday,he said u could try your luck up there if u want to  It was like he was giving me permission to hunt on somebody else  Hes 80 so he dont care but i am probally gonna go talk to that woman.
Thanks for reading i know its long but i had to share it.
I guess moral of the story is if u got private land to hunt do everything it takes to help the farmer or whoever out and u will have a buddy and a place to hunt.I help this guy out everytime he needs help.I think of him like my grandad. :icon_thumright:

Sounds like it all turned out for the good. Glad he was not seriously injured. I was hoping you were not gonna say he was pinned under it in the water. I came up on a guy on my way hunting with my dad a couple years ago that was pinned under his tractor. He wa an elderly gentleman and his tractor flipped over on his pond levee. Luckily it flipped away from the water. The roll bar helped a little but he was still pinned and hurt. Old age, tractors and being on the sauce is not a good combination. The story did not end well for him unfortunatly. He later died due to his injuries.
