Title: Another longbeard question
Post by: MouthCaller on March 07, 2014, 10:19:51 AM
All I can find in 3-1/2 is #4 anybody know what performance differences there are in the 4 vs the 5 or 6 ?

Is there no way to order any online?  I couldn't tell you the difference in performance but the 3" #6 shot was the best shell I've ever run thru my mossberg 500A

I'm pretty sure that #4's have the largest shot size, but the smallest amount of shot,#5's have a little bit smaller shot size and a little more shot, and finally #6's have the smallest shot size but the most number of shot...hope this helps.

Not to be smart but 4s generally get dusty on the  shelf long after 5s and 6s are gone.
This longbeard 4 is somewhat a different matter but 5 and 6 patterns suggest a #5 3 1/2 " shell will be a winner  for sure.

Not likelyall I found online were back ordered or out of stock didn't dig real deep though

That's what I was thinking I thought I would give the 5 a try or the 6 before the 4

I shoot the 5 shot and they are superb! I have a box of 4 that patterned great as well. They are backups to the #5. Had the same setup with the Xtended Range

The 3" #4's shoot awesome! 50+ hits in the vitals on a turkey paper target @40 yds!

I may be old school but if your gun will pattern #4's that is the only way to go.   More energy at longer distances.

Those LB shells should make #4's a viable option for everyone.  They pattern tight!
