What do y'all think was the best shell that as been produced, new or old. I know this will vary as to what gun, choke combo you are using but lets just hear what everyone thinks.
For me its the Whinchester Supreme 12ga 3" #5. These loads throw a great pattern out of my gun and choke combo.
Ready, get set, GO!! :z-guntootsmiley:
Plain lead= winchester super x grey box/Old federals
new lead=Longbeard
HTL= I dont know they all shoot pretty good lol
Since about 1992 for me the Winchester Supreme High Velocity 12 gauge 3" and 3.5" #5, I never shot HTL but I also never saw a tighter patter than Supreme Lead. Never needed anything else. If the Winchester Long Beard shells in #5 are as good as everyone says I will probably be making a change.
the old Federal 2oz loads along with the Winchester XX Magnum 2oz loads (red shells)
12 ga.-Winchester "Supreme" High Velocity 3.5" 2 oz. of #6 shot
10 Ga.- Federal's old pre FCW "Premium" 3.5" 2 1/4 oz. #6 shot
20 ga.-Federal's old pre FCW "Premium" 3" 1 5/16 oz. #6 shot.

Ditto.
im loving the longbeards 3in #5, better patterns and less kick than my old win high velocity's :z-guntootsmiley:
Out of my 835.
Black Death! Winchester 3-½" HV 2oz #5's
Red Death! XX Winchester 3-½" 2-¼ oz #6's
M.B 3-½" 2-¼ oz. 5,6,7
:gobble:
For me its Hevi shot mag blends 3" 2oz of 5 6 7.
Longbeards. Best thing since sliced bread.
Grand Slam in lead 4, 5. 12 g
Fed HWT 7 20 g
12 Gauge
3" Federal Turkey Thug #6
3" Winchester Supreme HV #5
3" Winchester SuperX #5
I still want to try the 3" Federal Turkey Thug #5's.
I haven't tried Longbeard yet.
Hevi-13 3-2-7
whatever patterns out of my gun the best.....try new shells all the time !!!

Yup, those have been those most successful in the turkey woods for me and my family.
12 gauge:
HTL: Hevi 3.5/2.25/7's for sheer pattern. Fed. 3.5" HW 7's for pure turkey dropping power (and they pattern really well too).
Lead. Fed. 3.5/2/6 ORIGINAL Grand Slam laods with the triple plus wad or the Win. XX 3.5/2.25/5 red shells.
20 gauge: Fed. HW 7's. PERIOD.
My old favorite has to be winchester supreme 12 ga #6 3". but if these longbeards work out they might just be my new favorite.
Hevi 3.5 2.25 oz 6s

old: Winchester supreme High Velocity #5's New: Winchester Long Beards #5, though I will have to get a more open choke for them, there pattern is too tight at 40 yds. I currently shoot .665 choke and use supreme HV
12 gauge
Old:
HTL - Remington Hevi Shot #6 = Amazing.
Lead - Winchester HV #5 = Thumped them at 45 and under.
New:
HTL - Hevi #6 = Great shell, just expensive.
Lead - Longbeard #4 = Absolutely ridiculous patterns, so tight that I added a scope.
10 Gauge:
Lead - Winchester HV #6 = Bad to the bone to 45.
HTL - Tie between mag blend and fed. hwt #7 = MB had more further out, but hwt still had enough.
20 gauge (2 3/4" full barrel)
Lead - Winchester high brass #6 and Remington Nitro Mag #4= Good to 35 yards.
HTL - Fed Hwt #7 = Good to 45.
3" no 6 Turkey Thug
3" no 4 Long Beard
Back in the day I loved the black Winchester 3-1/2 No 6
Longbeard XR 3.5" #6
Remington 4x6 Duplex was my favorite OLD shell...still a killer at 40 yards
Hevi-13 2.25 oz 6 or 7 is my NEW favorite, both pattern and punish gobblers
Older fiocchi turkey thunder when they were in a blue box.
2 3/8 ounce of nickel plated lead and they patterned great. Fiocchi nickel plated lead is way more consistent then most copper plated.
Several years ago they started loading them with a wad that isn't even long enough to hold all the shot and they pattern like crap now.
Liking the longbeard now just wish I could fine them in 5's and 4's.
Other than lead xtended range is hard to beat.
had 4's at our local Gander Mountain today but 5's are hard to come by as you said wait till May 15th they will be available everywhere :-)
Winchester Supreme Black HV 6's so far but haven't patterned the Longbeard 6's yet.
Hevi 13 3.5/2.25/7's
Hevi 13 3/2/7's
Hevi 13 3/2/6's
Magblends
Win XX 3/2/6's
Win HV 3/ 1 3/4/ 6's
Win S-X 3/1 7/8/ 6's
Win LB's
I liked the old school nitros, or could have been I killed my turkey with them.

It looks like cabelas has 5's in the 3.5 inch longbeard and free shipping over 100. I just don't want to order that many or pay shipping. I'll find some in my travels.
free ship to store for any qty...don't guess you are close to a Cabelas store? You could always buy some other gear to get to 100 bucks...everyone needs more stuff!!! LOL :z-guntootsmiley:
Couple hours from a few different cabelas. I can't hunt until mid May with the tags I have so I'm not worried about it. Really Nothing I've shot out of my beretta that wouldn't get the job done at 40 and beyond.
Lb xr 6's put over 250 in the 10 at 40 when it was 25 outside so I really just want to see what 5's will do and maybe 6's again.
nice, I'd shoot the #5s if they hit well for you...the #6 lead is still short on energy for long range despite patterning more than well enough. Good luck in May, heck I'll be done before you can even start

Win HV 3.5" #6 I've killed more birds with that load than all others combined. Now that said I'm really liking Longbeard #6
Win. HV 3.5" 5's! The gobbler I killed yesterday morning did not like them though! ;D
10 gauge: Federal 2 1/4 oz #4 shot. This load is long discontinued but is by far my favorite in the big 10. That said I'm Dow to my last 19!
12 gauge: Winchester HV #5 shot 3 1/2" . Out of my 835 this load does a great job of making my 10 gauge feel like a 410!
Winchester Supreme XX 6s (red shell) 3 or 3.5 are killer out of my 835
