Title: Browning A5 3 1/2 patterning?
Post by: jrtgobble on March 02, 2014, 11:49:25 PM
First of all, I'm glad to have found this site.  For my first post, I was wondering if anybody has done any patterning with the newer 3 1/2 A5's with the Invector DS chokes. I bought one in the fall for duck hunting and love it, had planned on turkey hunting with my old 835, due to A) my 835 is a turkey killing machine, and B) not many choke choices for the Invector DS. My dad threw me a curveball today and told me he'd found a new Rhino choke in a local store that they've just started making for the DS choke system. I at least want to see what it will do in case i need a "back up".  Anybody done any patterning with these guns yet?  I plan on shooting it this week some time and will post my findings... thanks.

Man, I love the new A5's! I've got a older stalker model A5 that I hunt with that I really like too, but wish I could afford one of the new ones. Anyway, search in the pattern section and you can find a few examples. I'm pretty sure William from Sumtoy put a few patterns up. He's a stand up guy and you won't go wrong with one of his chokes.

Thanks for the reply.  I have seen some of his tests with the 3" A5, but none with the 3.5".  Seems like his chokes yield some awesome patterns across the board.  I've always shot the Rhino chokes with Nitro shells, at least for the past 10 years, but this site has opened me up to some new ideas.  I plan on shooting mine with a few different loads once my Rhino choke gets here.  Those longbeards and the Hevi 13 straight 7's have particularly caught my eye.

I only have the 3 inch gun is why not other patterns.  It is a good gun as long as you don't over choke it.  675  rang with the HV13 or Winchester Long Beards you will be just fine.  I have seen some of the guys shoot the Nitro out of the 675 just not in A5 as of now.

I'd be interested in trying it out.  What's the easiest way to get a hold of one from you?  The patterns from your chokes speak for themselves
