Title: Has anyone used a Sun Optics receiver mounted rail or similar? Do they hold up?
Post by: jdavenp3 on February 28, 2014, 08:30:45 PM
I came across this and it has decent reviews from what all I can find. Has anyone used anything like this? Does it hold zero? Any disadvantages to this type of rail?

This would save some money and I could avoid a botched gunsmith job since it bolts directly into the factory receiver holes. Other than aesthetics I don't see what the difference between this and a normal rail would be unless there is some sort of loss in zero type deal

Could anyone help out please? Link to what I am talking about below?

I hunted with one on my 870 last year.  They sit lower to the receiver than most others.  It held zero well & seemed to be well built.  It has plenty of slots in the rail to put your optics right where you need them. It should work well for you.  This year I had mine drilled & tapped.  I just like being able to take out my trigger assembly without having to take the rail & red dot off.

I saw the exact same ones you found. I was looking for a bps 10 and got all excited till I saw it was for a 12 ,lol! They look like a direct copy of the aimtech/b-square. They had good reviews, so it might be worth a try. I think Amazon has a pretty good return policy so if it ain't right you can always send it back. Good luck, let us know if ya get one and how it works out.

I saw that budsgunshop.com had them for $24.95 if I am not mistaken.

Thanks a lot Punisher...Bud's does have the mount for $25. I think I am going to go this route for this year so I am not rushing to get my optics together at the last minute. I really need to take it to a larger gunsmith that has dealt with these receivers if I were to get it drilled/tapped so for right now I am going to go the saddle mount route. I will report back once everything comes in for a fit and finish review of it.

I had one on a Mossberg 500 and it worked good. Still have the mount but sold the gun.

Did it hold zero well? I really haven't heard any negative reviews on it yet. I am putting a Vortex Strikefire on top of it. Hopefully Ill have a killing set up when they come in.
