Title: Savage edge XP .223?
Post by: new2turkey on March 13, 2011, 12:40:32 PM
Anyone have any experience with this gun? I want to set up a long range bolt action gun with a bipod and I like the small caliber for the low recoil and cheap ammo....

In a .223 it is a good gun for a first time shooter.

Also my 7 year old brother shot a .223 the other day when I brought him out, and was a great shot with it set up on the bed of the truck... But I don't like the idea of him with an AR just yet... So I like the idea of a bolt action.

And I would use the gun for long shots as well as a coyote gun.

What do you guys think?

Everything I have read concerning these guns has been positive, the accuracy is unreal

I haven't had experience with that specific gun, but my dad owns 2 savages and they are both shooters.  One in 7mm Mag and the other is a 270.

accurate ...yes.. trigger ? well has alot to be desired. try the thompson center venture out. this does have a adjustable trigger and is a great gun. don't think i dont like savage cause i own a few but this model doesnt have the accu trigger and the pull has alot of creep. i wouldnt even think twice on this a  good turkey gun for long range though.

That's what I'm looking for.... I really want to mount a bipod on it and I have access to shoot at about 400 yards

Great guns. Not many aftermarket triggers available though.

Thanks for the feedback guys... Not really worried about the triggers, I've never messed with aftermarket triggers, I've done fine with them I just have to learn the trigger.... I might be missing out though  :bike2:

Looks like this will be the next gun
