I just bought a new Mossberg 835 with a 24" Ported Barrel. I plan to try out the new Long Beard 3.5" #5's shells. What choke do ya'll suggest I start out with. Thanks!
Truglo ssx
The SSX is one hell of a choke no doubt. I would also tell you that a old Star Dot choke I bet would be even better.
thinking about picking up a box of 5's just to try through the stardot to see what happens
SumToy is always my personal choice!!! :icon_thumright:
OR!!!... You could check the lead shooters forum and see what prob 30 guys are shooting in their own 835s/935s with every long beard loading available right now. Sorry guys but I'm just getting a little tired of the utter unused scroll button of people's computers any more. Look down folks. There is a world of info right at your finger tips. Besides. You're gonna need to pattern the stuff anyways right???
Don't be afraid to try the stock choke that comes in the 835. We was patterning yesterday, and one of my buddies got 150's with his 835 and the stock choke, with the 3.5" Long Beards 5 shot.

Jeez.... So this forum has this kind of people
OR....... You could try a HS Strut UnderTaker. Part #00661 - .695 ID - Lead shot only fits Mossberg 835 Utli-Mag 12 ga.
I don't own a Mossberg any more and you can have mine for FREE, but it would be nice if you'd pay for shipping. Shouldn't be more than a couple of bucks. Jim

Do they still make the Stardot ckoke?
TT,
The 835 shoots most loads very well with a choke in the range of .670 to .680. The SSX, Pure Gold, Sumtoy, Indian Creek or Stardot, are all excellent choices. Good Luck with whatever you choose and :welcomeOG:.
My 20" barrel gets 148 with #5 longbeards and the factory choke.

Might I suggest this http://www.midwayusa.com/product/699899/past-super-mag-plus-recoil-pad-shield-ambidextrous It will take the sting out of that 835.

Where do you find a Star Dot Choke? It looks like they're out of business?
Thanks

Stardot's are still being manufactured by Colonial Arms.http://www.colonialarms.com/ct07.html If you order one, you want to order the Extra Full for the 835. The extra full is .676.

I just finished a several month long evaluation of chokes with the new Mossberg 835 with the Matthews Harmonic Dampner Recoil Reduction System, comparing that gun to an older 835, a 935 and an SSi-ONE. I shot a real variety of brands, designs and exit diameters, with a variety of 3" and 3.5" shells with #4, #5, #6, and #7 shot.
I had done this many years before but there were some new players in this evaluation.
I think many of you will be interested in what I discovered.
As you know, allaboutshooting.com is moving from Illinois to South Carolina and I may not be able to publish the results of my evaluation before the move.
If I'm not able to do that, I will get it published in mid to late June, when all is settled.
I believe you'll find the results worth the wait.
Thanks,
Clark
