Is it a good load for that gun? Do you have to use the hevi shot choke??
Thanks
It's interesting that it just hasn't been patterned very much out of the 20 ga. It's hard to shoot something like mag blend when the Federal Heavyweight #7's do so well. All you can do is try it out and see. That goes for the hevi choke too. I've seen some good numbers from the 12 ga, but just haven't seen anyone try it from the 20.
I have tried the magblends in my 870 with both the .570 Tightwad and the .570 Hastings
very good patterns, would not think twice about hunting with them.
Remington Super Full and Federal Heavyweight 3 inch 7's are wicked in my 870.

I can only answer half of your question. No you don't have to use the Hevi-shot choke. But the choke you choose must be approved for use with Hevi-Shot. Examples of such would be the JellyHead, Indian Creek, Pure Gold, Tru Glo SSX, Carlson, along with too many more to list.
The 20ga mag blends pattern similar to Fed HW 2.75" #7s. I just can't see shooting mag blends when you can buy Fed HW 3" #7s cheaper.
I know in my 21" with a superfull, the patterns were pitiful, not worth counting the Magblends.
With the fed 7's 160 in the ten 40 yards lazered.
Grand Slam 5 and 6's really good also.
I shot a load of MagBlends through my 26" 870 with a .575 Carlson. It posted 107 at 40 yds. I'm going to try it again with a SSX and Pure Gold to see if I can pick up a few hits.
My 870 with 26" barrel and the undertaker choke had 74 hits in 10" circle.
that was with the 3" Magblends
I was not very impressed, going to order a Sumtoy and try the Fed HW #7
Currently adding a Burris fast fire and will report back once I have more info.
