Title: FYI Remington 20ga scope mount.
Post by: Ranman on March 11, 2011, 11:03:22 PM
I bought a Mueller for my 870 20ga.  It does not have mounting hole.  I checked local gunsmiths and they wanted $25 per hole to drill and tap, so I tried a B-square from BP that was on sale for $25.  Sat way too high.  Had to take cheek completely off stock.  Talked to Remington, they said a scope mount for a Remington 7400, or 7600 would fit the contour of the 870 20ga.  Warne part # A995M fits perfect.  Ordered a drill and tap set from MidwayUSA, $5.99.  Screws are 8-40.  With the Mueller down on the receiver, cheek weld is fine.  Waiting on drill and tap set, will post pic when complete.  Hope this is helpful.

Good Luck, Go slow and be careful.

The two Gunsmith's I talked to said $10 per hole, so $25 per hole is pretty high.

I agree if it is a dedicated turkey or deer shotgun, drilling and tapping is probably the best way to go.

I put the same site on the same gun the same way.

Mark carefully and check twice. Use a drill press to keep things square and chuck up the tap in the drill press. Use a good cutting oil and turn/back off the chuck by hand while putting downward pressure with the drill press. Take your time and you will find it is quite doable.
