Ok Like I have said in past yall teach me and help me as much as I help yall. I have been playing with the new Winchester Load the past few. I said it was going to be fun to see how the new HV13 load did. Now we shot a HV13 yesterday and :TrainWreck1:. Unless I was looking at the wrong wad they have changed it. I will look and test a few chokes to see but this could be bad thing. So my question is have any of yall shot the NEW Hv13 loads. If so pick up the wad and what was your patterns compared to years age.
what do you mean by the new hv13?
The new run of them. The last ones the built. Hard to say but Customer said he had just got them in the mail. They are different then any in the past.
i hope they didnt fool with the magblends :character0029:
Do not know about this year, but with last year's lot my pattern dropped 40%. Bought some older lot numbers and when they are gone I will be going away from hevishot for good.
They (Hevi 13) are NOTORIOUS for switching components & that is why I stopped using their products two years ago. Do you remember when the first batch of Hevi 7's came out and folks were putting up 300-340+ in the 10" at 40 yards??? The VERY next year those numbers dropped off dramatically...... I cut up a few of those shells and guess what????....They had changed the wad!!!! If I had to bet money on it I would guess they have started messing with components yet again ::) ::) ::) .....I'll more than likely be shooting the new Win longbeard load.
Its as simple as this , and is nothing new to the world of ammo -- if you find a ammo you like and shoots well go out and buy up as much as you can afford -- because in the world of turkey ammo the product can be discontinued, hard to find ..become expensive ....or the availability of the components can become unavailable NOTHING NEW here , the only ones upset are the ones that didn't buy enough
I didn't exactly like spending $600 on turkey ammo last year , but you know what availability is not a problem anymore for me - I'm set with ammo for LIFE
I think with the patterns the new WIN. long beard is putting up and the fact there cheaper than the over priced H-13 shells your gonna see a lot of people switching when they need to buy new shells, Now I'm not talking about those of us that have a stock pile of the good lot# H-13 shells going out and buying them, I'm talking about the person that needs shells for this season. I will say this I'm sick of buying high priced H-13 and not knowing if there gonna pattern worth a hoot . In my opinion they have shot themselves in the foot tinkering with things time and time again.
OLD GOBBLER you have a great point there .
SUMTOY, how bout a gun, choke, load, shot size and 10" numbers.

I agree with your post Shannon, I would have LOVED to have been able to buy a case of the first batch on Hevi 13 #7's .....but such was not the case....I am not upset by that, but it is aggravating not to have the same consistency from year to year. :)
I hear you -- I got fed up with availability issues and bit the bullet
In any ammo companies defence , there is always going to be supply variations in powder wads and hulls seen it with all of them- I'm sure the companies are upset as well

I did the exact same as you on the exact same ammo, I'm not shooting it but when I can't afford TSS those shells we bought will be long gone

What shot size, shell length and Lot Number???
10 gauge federal heavyweight

That's so True.
When I wanted to try the 3" #6 Turkey Thugs last year, I had a hunch they would do well because of all the great reports that I'd read on OG. I splurged and bought all 3 boxes I saw of the 3" #6's. They patterned great, but then I never saw any more for sale at any Wal-Mart. I'm glad I didn't just buy one box to try that time.

That is exactly what I did, Those thugs were some of the best lead patterns i've ever shot. But may be beaten by the new long beards! We'll see.
When u say hv did hevi come out with high velocity load or is this the regular h-13?

That is it. Hv13. The load was a 31/2-6 out a SBEII. They had taken the patterns with them. I will post the numbers as soon as he lets me know. I will tell you the Win LB looked Better then the HV13 did.
Whether it's due to availability or them just tinkering, now is not the right time for Hevi-Shot to be changing up stuff. With these Long Beards coming out and patterning like they do, Hevi shot will take a big hit in sales if people start seeing a decline in their Hevi Shot patterns, because they will start using the Winchester shells. Out of the people I know personally, I am the only one with a stock pile of Hevi Shot.

Y'all got to remember .0000001 % of the turkeys hunters are on this forum. Majority prob don't pattern and they associate Hevi shot as being the holy grail due to previous success and/or great marketing. They will be selling shells for a long time cause of those 2 things. If you talked to a hundred guys in a sporting goods store I bet they would look you like your nuts if you asked them how many pellets they were getting in a 10" circle at 40 yards
I have the pattern photo. William was nice enough to help me tune in my 10ga and 12ga.
I saw the wad from the brand new shell and compared it to a wad from last year that William had.
The old wad was a little flimsier....which allowed it to expand more. It looked the the wad out of my gun did not expand fully to the width of the barrel. It is hard to explain without a photo.
Here is the pattern photo and count.
Benelli SBE. Old h&k version.
12 gauge
3.5" hevi 13 #6
.649 choke
127-10"
194-20"
321-Total

After this William gave me a Winchester longbeard and we put 184 in the 10" circle.
Wow--that's pretty bad. No reason that should do anything less than 150 and that is still bad.

I have to agree.
I just don't understand why EM continues to do this year in and year out. That pattern will kill, but for the cost of those shells, that is unacceptable.
This wad is not going to work good. I think the BIG bore guns are going to hurt more by it. I get some good weather I will try a few things to see what we can get them to do. I have a few from last year also.
I've never personally seen a 3.5" Hevi shell put numbers up that were that low....wow.....
Better post up that lot # cause you're gonna get asked a million times.........
I shot the H13 #6 when they first come out with the 2.25 oz load and was putting up 200+ with a benelli SBE and jellyhead. I ran out of those and shot win xr for a few years and after they were discontinued last year I bought a few boxes of the H13 loads in #6 last spring. I was lucky to get 130. After the disappointment a guy gave me a few mag blends to try and got 200+ with those so I bought enough for 5 years.
oh ya, bringin back those memories of the flight control days when the triple plus wad was put on the back shelf.
What is in them? Hornady turkey load "spreader wads" :bike2:
This is the new wad. I know I had customer that has shot our stuff for years call about his 835. The numbers had gone down. I did not know if it was something with the choke. I now have had this show up two times. I have the choke back and will test that choke in my gun. I will post old shell and new shell.
I picked up two boxes of hv13 and with the rebate they were only 19.99 a box, only a dollar more than the longbeards
That would be a nice looking pattern for Lead.
Dont Hevi come in 5 rnd box? Longbeard 10 rnds. ???????????????????

There are 5 shells in a box of hevi13 and 10 shells in a box of longbeards, so the hevi's are a little more than twice the cost.
Good point, had a brain fart. Lol
We did the test today. Same gun same choke and all.
935 24 inch barrel. Real world gun just came from duck hunt out west and from bottom of water hole.. :TrainWreck1:
Old HV13 31/2-13/4-6 It put 137
New 3-2-6 It put 155
New 31/2-21/4-6 It put 177
New Long Beard 31/2-6 IT PUT 241

I realize that lead looses energy fairly fast past 40 yards (and it's not for everyone)....but for the 40 yard shooter the new LB xr is gonna lay a hurting on the market for the Hevi folks. Just one mans opinion. :icon_thumright:
