Title: Kentucky Guys
Post by: Cove on January 28, 2014, 09:29:15 PM
I have 2 weekends available to scamper to KY, it'll only be the weekends due to other trips occupying the majority of your season. It'll be the first weekend and the last weekend. Whats the reports for the season timing? Those with experience, early or late? Whats your preference?

Thanks.

If you hunt west early east late...
Spring will be late it seems...if you have to pick and its public...I would go later...I would also look into renting a boat.

What do you consider cadiz area? Me and 2-3 buddies planning a trip to a couple small leases we have.  First time to turkey hunt that area and deciding bw 2nd weekend and that last one of season in early May. Currently leaning towards May.

I'd consider Cadiz west. I've gotta good buddy with a lease just above Cadiz and he's loaded with turkeys. Unfortunately they can't take guests. He says that opening weekend there is 10x better than the later dates. Actually says he'd never go back the last week of the season. I was curious if this was everyone's opinion.. . . . .

These 2 weekends will be following 2 work weeks so I'd be coming from home. So I may consider hunting westerly opening weekend and research something on the east side for late. Thanks for the advice.

Here is my take....

I have lived and hunted turkey in North Central Kentucky for 20+ years.
Over the years I have seen it go both ways.  Some years early is better, some years later is better HOWEVER if I had to pick one over the other I would choose later.  MOST seasons you will find that most of the hens are setting toward the end of our season.  This is NOT always the case as the last couple of years have been crazy for us.

So with all that said my vote would go to later

Just my .02

I like to go early and kill out so I can fish later.   :)

We'll really just have to see how spring progresses but I like to error going sooner than later due to getting a crack at all the birds available vs what is left.

Good luck and keep us posted!

If you are hunting public in west (LBL) it is pretty much over run with hunters the first week of season epically the weekends. It's a big place and you can usually find a spot to hunt.

I would pick late season east or west.
