Title: Wanted old raspy hen call

I  looking for a call that Mimics the sounds of an old boss hen!

I would recommend a cedar short box with either a purpleheart or bloodwood paddle.

Tryin to piss off the old lady eh...LOL.  I'm fortunate to live the wide open plains and get to see and work them from long distances. Lots of fun to watch her drag the whole bunch with her.

I typically use a slate pot and peg and play more towards the center of the call to get the lower pitch of the old hen, then match her note for note.

There's plenty of calls can do what your looking for ( long box , short box and friction) depending on wood combo's and striker. I use a Turpin style box call. Deep yawk in the yelps with plenty of rasp.

scratched glass or copper surfaced pot call for me  :icon_thumright:

I got a purpleheart over cedar shortbox from Mike and it sounds great. I'd definitely get in touch with him if you want an affordable, high quality box call. I think it will do what you want for sure
