Title: 835 Ulti-Mag and LimbSaver
Post by: RAY on December 03, 2013, 06:02:46 PM
Just shot my 835 Ulti-Mag with a new Limbsaver recoil pad.  I loaded it with Winchester Supreme 3.5" (black shell). It was great.  Absorbed the recoil perfectly. I was very pleased with it. My old solid rubber factory recoil pad was miserable to shoot.

I have an old school 835 with the original and a slip limb saver recoil pad and it still ROCK YOUR WORLD :OGturkeyhead:

I shot a 835 10 years ago with 3.5 Winchester #5's and it would knock the slobber out of you. It is the hardest kicking gun I've ever shot. My friend still has that gun, but he dropped back to hevi-13 #7. He said it still kicks pretty good.

Best $$ I ever spent for my 835, I also added a beartooth comb raising kit to the stock to take care of the cheek slap as well.  When I started shooting 3.5" shells thru my 835, the first time I shot it it felt like I got punched in the face and my cheek was sore for two weeks.  Beartooth solved that problem!  I shoot the black 3.5 Win. HV 5's and I could shoot them all day long with this set up.

I agree on the best $ spent. Now my trigger pull is really stiff. I was hoping to get the LPA adjustable trigger from Mossberg to install on mine.  But they do not sell it seperate. Other than that, it patterns great.

I agree with you trkehunr93. I believe that the 835 is arguably the best bargain turkey gun on the market. My friend's 835 throws a exceptional pattern. I could have used a beartooth comb kit that day. I shot it about 8-10 times and I felt it for a while. I had my Remington 11-87 with us that day and I couldn't get patterns anywhere close to his. Even when he shot 3" shells.

I had a limbsaver on my 835 and loved it.  Switched to a pistol grip stock to help holding the gun in postion for long periods of time, absorb recoil, and shorten LOP, so I sold the Limbsaver.  Limbsaver is worth the cost.

Limbsaver pads are a great addition to any turkey gun! Have one on my 835, and love it! :icon_thumright:

What size Limb Saver recoil pad did you get for the 835? I see one on there for a 5 3/16" and one for a
4 7/8".

Ray,
I also have an 835 and have set it up the same as you are trying to do yours.  I put a Limbsaver recoil pad on it and added the Beartooth Comb Raising kit to it and she shoots like a 20.  I didn't like the trigger pull either so I contacted Mossberg for the LPA trigger but they said they weren't making any for previous models.  I then did the next best thing, I contacted Bill Springfield http://www.triggerwork.net/ and sent him my trigger group for some trigger work.  When I sent it, it was pulling at 5.5 lbs and he got it down to 3 lbs.  I now have a dedicated turkey gun that I have complete confidence in.  Good Luck with your Baby.

Been thinking about getting my trigger done but did not know where to go.  Thanks for the information.  If you do not mind me asking, how much did it cost you?  Thanks!

Should have looked at the website, it says $45.  Just need to find out his turn around time.  Thanks again!

davisd,
I sent my trigger group to Bill on Monday, via UPS, and he had it back to me the following Monday.  Quick and easy turnaround.  Just to let you know, there is still some up take in the trigger but I can deal with that.  What I hated was the feel of the 5.5 to 6 lb trigger pull.  It seemed like the gun was never going to go off.  Now with a slight squeeze, it's LIGHTS OUT.

That is great. Thanks for the info.  I will be looking into that well before Spring.
