Just my opinion: Rem 870 Super Mag in the new Bottomland Camo with a Jelly Head Choke and Burris Fastfire iii, and you would have some money left to buy some shells. I along with 3 of my hunting buddies have this combo and i can tell you they are all shooters and great guns!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!

This gun and the Jellyhead with the Heavi # 7's is a sweet combo!!!!!!

1000$ is a pretty good budget..When I saw the thread title I was thinking it would be a smaller budget..Im a poor boy and have  no experience with shotguns in that price range..

We'll not exactly 1000 but 900 would pretty much be as high as I'll go

With that budget an 870 shouldn't even be in the topic. Nothing against an 870 but there are much better guns with that budget.

Winchester sx3 or Remington 1187 would be my 2 quick choices as well as a Stoeger 3500 and browning Gold.

All 4 of those are fantastic guns with a good following.

With those two choices I'd look at Stoeger 3500

Out of the two I would probably go with the 3500 also.If you would be content with shooting 3" shells I would suggest taking a look at a beretta a300.You can pick those up in black synthetic for around $650 or less and it's a rock solid nicely balanced gun.My Son has one in max 4 28" barrel and we love it.If you have a $900 budget that leaves plenty left for a drill and tap(plenty of meat in receiver for that)optic and choke. As much as I love my vinci it would have been  hard deciding between it and the a300  had they been available at that time.Good luck!

I actually have a Custom Built 20 gauge with 2 drop- in chokes that i use at turkey shoots. Only change u would have to make is buy new chokes because you could not shoot Steell in these chokes. Only reason i am willin to sale it is that i am wantin to buy a Outlaw Barrel . This Gun will blow a Turkeys head off at 25 yards easily! It was built by SumToy! Great built Gun!! call me. 9198880381.

Turkey loads would be ok out it.  The only thing is it would need to have the chamber changed in it for them.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is get a Mossberg 835, put a Burris FFIII for a sight with a 336 base, choke it with a Truglo SSX, put a claw sling on it, and feed her 3-2-7 Hevi-13.

You will have a boneafied turkey slayer for well under 900.00, and will kill any turkey walking.

Nobody has mentioned the Rem Versa Max yet.

Bret Favre says they are more reliable than Wrangler jeans or some such.

I just know that Cheaper Than Dirt has them for less than $900. Obviously there are others.

i picked up a versamax at bass pro for $847 -- rock solid gun, I've e run about 100 high velocity duck loads it already and it has a flawless function - like it way more than the other autos I've tried , in causing some twice the price

I have a brand new Sumtoy turkey choke for it , I'm going to wait for a nice day and run some fed #7 3.5 hw in it

I'd put the 870 before the 835 IMO though.  If it were me on the 900 dollar budget, I'd buy an 870, a good choke, polish the barrel, put a fast fire on it, and shur shot stock...that's a turkey killer, and its easy to carry and hunt with.  You'd have some money left to feel good about buying some Hevi 13.   :icon_thumright:

Remington 870 Express 20 ga., running a Sumtoy 562-5 choke, and putting Fed. HW 3" #7s through it.  Easy on the shoulder and a joy to pack.  There is just a special feeling I get from downing an old longbeard from forty yards with a twenty gauge.

I would think you could pick up a Winchester SX3 or a Browning Gold. These two guns are a pleasure to shoot. If you are open to a pump shotgun then an 835 hands down.

automatic would be a stoeger 3500
pump   would be a mossberg 835

in a 20ga
automatic would be a weatherby SA08
pump would be a 870

Hmmm, according to your other posts, you already have a tristar hunter mag,a 3500 stoeger, and a ten gauge h&r single? If I were you I would just spend some money on chokes and ammo, maybe an optic, to dial in one of those guns and keep the rest for gas to go scouting and hunt with. :icon_thumright:

I had a good "chuckle" when I read the title to this post then found out the the "budget" was a grand; things sure have (and are) changing; I shoot nothing but Remingtons and by no means will I say that there is "no other" out there, I just know that my 870(s) will do EVERYTHING that I need it to do in order to kill a turkey; if you have a 1000.00 dollars to spend on a gun, the choices are wide open to anyone with that kind of a budget AND just about ANY gun you can buy with that money will be a dandy for sure; I will just stay with my 870 and use whatever money I can afford to get me to the Turkey woods.

Get an 870 or 835 with a good choke and use the rest of the money on turkey tags!

Walmart sells a full camo 870 for something like $357.  Pretty sure it shoots 3.5" shells and has a 26" barrel.  I know hardwoods 20/200 is so 2008 but it's camo.

There is no such thing as the best gun.  Too many factors overall to pick just one.

But there is such a thing as the best shooting.  And I would say the Moss 835 would win that category amongst all others in that category from what I have seen with most loads.

I have both the 870 Super Mag and the Stoeger M3500, IMO can't go wrong with either one! I've found that with the heavy recoil of most turkey loads it can be difficult to reload after the shot. Do your part you won't need the follow-up shot but with an autoloader you know it's there.

Just do y'all know I have a tristar hunter mag, a remington 870 20 gauge, a remington 870 12 gauge, a Rossi single shot .410 and 20 and I use my dads stoeger 3500 but my favorite one now that I got a little collection I gotta say my favorite is the tristar it's good quality it gives me awesome patterns and it just so happens I'm on my school trap team and that tristar does a heck of a job I've also hunting a lot with it and killed rabbits, squirrel, dove, grouse, waterfowl, turkey, coyotes and foxes, and I've even got patterned with buckshot for when deer season comes

For a 3.5 gun, the SX3 is right there at the top of your range and worth every penny.  Next, the 3500.  I have not shot one but have been told the recoil with the big shell is "brisk".

The 935 is a great gun with a 10 gauge bore.  It will out pattern most any other out of the box 12 gauge with the big payload, and especially with the bigger shot size.  Same for the 835 if you want a mule kicking pump.  If you also duck hunt, these guns will pattern the big steel better too.

Everyone should own at least one 870. :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an

Lots of good options in your I price range. Get a used one and use the savings to personalize it the way you like.
