Title: Camera Pod/support for filming on the ground
Post by: turkeyfanatic on March 10, 2011, 01:01:07 PM
Hey everyone, I'm looking for a camera support or pod that I can set up right next to me or between my legs to film hunts.

I'm looking for something small and compact.  Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks

What are you filming with?  Sometimes I will video with a point and shoot. Not the best quality, but it works. Works great for self-time photos though.

Found a bolt in the shop that fit the hole in the bottom of the camera and epoxied it into an old arrow. If your camera isn't too heavy you may get away with this.

Good Idea.....I'm filming with a mini dv Sony.  I forget the exact name, however it fits in the palm of your hand.

I use the Primos tree arm in archery season and love it, now I'm looking for something on the ground.

Thanks

Any small tripod with a fluid head will work.  The head is the most important part of the equation, if you don't get a fluid head your video will not be as smooth as you want it to be.  If it were a perfect world the arrow trick would work perfectly, but if you have to pan the camera either way I could see how you could get in trouble quick with that setup.

If you aren't concerned with the quality of the video you can go to any walmart and buy a small tripod for under $30.00 that will work fine.

I might look in those places.....

I was thinking along the lines of being able to put it in the ground for support....

Check this place out and look at the crooked arm pro and the crooked arm.

I appreciate all the help .

If you are going to set it stationary most any pod will do. I would stay away from anything too light/cheap if you have much wind- shakey video

If you will be doing any panning you will want a good fluid head- don't cheap out on this! Take your time choosing a head and choose one hands on. When you turn the head it should be smooth, very smooth. bogen/manfrotto is a great brand & expect to spend as much on a good head as you will for legs
