All the chemicals used for pets was developed for livestock first. They just charge more because pet lovers will pay more. You have to be careful to use the correct dosages. Some products folks use are hard to measure or combine ingredients. Some of the pastes when used for a correct dose of one ingredient will overdose on another. That sort of thing will eventually lead to kidney failure.

For worming grown dogs I use Safeguard for goats. You can worm your two a few times for $20 with a 125ml bottle from Tractor Supply. The dosage is 1 milliliter of Safeguard per 5 pounds of dog. You give it once per day for three days.

The other things I do to control worms is to shoot every rabbit I see and stay on top of the fleas.

I have been using Zimectrin (Ivermectin) for my dogs for 20+ years with NO problems and NO worms of any kind.  A once a month wormer that takes care of round, hook, tape and heart worms.  You can buy it at most Tractor Supply stores and other co-ops.  Yes it states horse wormer but it has the same active ingredient, 1.87% Ivermectin, as most dog worm meds.  The medication is a paste with a syringe that will allow you to regulate the amount of med's that you dispense, by the weight of the dog.  The cost is between 6 to 10 dollars per syringe and treats 1250 lbs.
