Im just wondering if anybody lacks one or more of the birds and gonna try to get slam this next spring or at least "chip away at it"?
I need the Osceola but can't justify the cost for that one bird when I can go to other states and kill multiple birds for less! I hope to get one someday, if I'm not so cheap! Lol
I just need a Rio. Thinking about heading to Oklahoma since I live in SE. Kansas.
I need an Osceola..... Would have 3 slams complete if I could get the equivalent number of osceolas...
Well i wish everybody luck next few years if you decide to go after your last bird
I need an Osceola

Oh yeah, and a Rio ;D
Sorry, I couldn't resist
I'd like to add to it next year. I only have Easterns so far. I'm really the only turkey hunting fanatic that I know, so it's hard to talk people into going on the trip with me. My dad says he won't pay that much or travel that far for "just a turkey." I tell him he's crazy. ;D

It's all about the turkey and then it's not.
It's about the new challenge of the same bird in a different habitat, the new people, the new cultures, and the spectacular sights and sounds experienced in pursuit of the grand bird.
My soul is rejuvenated match 15- June 1 each year. Hope you can find a traveling partner or two. You won't regret the money or the time spent on the road,
Just the Merriams for me.
I knew a lot of folks needed the Osceola....Why not try a Special Op hunt? I have been on several and killed birds each time I went....very low cost and very high success rate.
Go to the Florida Game & Fish and read up on it....the deadline is in the fall so get the info now so you can be prepared for the application when it comes time to put in. I have seen people from all over North America at these hunts.
I would prefer not to give up the places that I have hunted but I can tell you that ALL of the SO hunts are top notch with high success.
Fortunately I have private land to hunt now but I like to keep those SO hunts in my mind just in case my deal falls through.
Best of luck and Happy 4th!! :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an
I only need an Osceola to finish my first slam. Killed my Merriams in Wyoming this Spring and it was a great hunt!
Just lack an Osceola. Going to try the single season next year. Should have done it this year. Didn't go to Florida on an open invite in late March.

Good luck its a lot of fun. I started last season in same position and was very fortunate to get mine and single season in exact reverse order of lifetime slam

to go? Or only one harvested?
Last one to fill. Won the lottery and got a special op hunt in FL.
A word to the masses that FL limits OOS'ers to 10% of the available spots. In several cases that means only 1 OOS'er gets to go.
I'll wrap a couple up next year. Retired, have the time to go after my Rios/Merriams. Rios will be a done deal with the land I have to hunt loaded with Turkey, so Merriams will be the only challenge. Will get that accomplished in Dakotas or Nebraska.
I just need the Merriams to complete mine, gonna try and get it done this spring. I would also love to go back to Florida for another Osceola.
Well again good luck to all of you its a really a neat goal/accomplishment to have and only us crazy turkey hunters understand
I lack a Rio. I never set out to get a slam and have no immediate plans to go after a Rio. I'm sure I'll wind up in Rio country one day but it will be in pursuit of a turkey and not a slam. I think it's great that people go after a slam, and some a single season slam, but for me it's just something that I never have thought much about.

Ronnie you call me when you get ready to find a Rio bird. I'll bring the rocks and the nets and we'll have a good time.

i need a Osceola to finsh up mine. if i had remembered i moved 12 yards father away from a fence post that i had ranged that morning i would have realized he was a lot father than he was. that morning it was 40 yards. add the 12 yards i moved that afternoon and him being 5 yards father i would have been ok. but at 59 yards no jooy i said to myself before pulling the trigger he is around 44 yards. oh well next year. going to the same place if the land owner will let us come back. he said come on back and we are. he even said he hopes to have some new land thats better hunting.
that afternoon had 3 gobblers come in only to see my cousins pretty boy and turn from it. one never got closer than 90 yards, i tought the one i missed and the other one was going to come thru an open gate and stroll by me but at the last minute they turned and went behind the fence.

:TooFunny: Will do. I need a maximum of one rock for each tag, maybe less. You can reuse rocks if you can find them after the kill. And I prefer those HTANR rocks. You can use smaller rocks that way. HTANR= Heavier Than A Normal Rock
I have 10 total slams, but I lack an Eastern to finish my bow slam and a Rio to finish my 16ga slam. I have completed my 12ga, 20ga, 10ga and muzzleloader slam. Gonna start a .410 or 28ga slam next season chasing Osceolas.

I totally agree....
I believe I'm headed to Florida next year to chase an Osceola.
Someday I may eventually get a slam. If I get there, I get there. So far I have Easterns and a couple Gould's. Traveled 1400 miles this past April and waded snow up past my knees to pass on a thin-bearded Merriam's that just wasn't what I went all that way for. Crazy, I suppose.
If I get there, I get there. The journey is where the fun's at !!
