Alright so I've been thinking about the upcoming season. I've got an 835 with a 24" barrel that puts up some really good numbers, not the best numbers, but good enough for killing. I've been thinking about buying another 835, either another one with a 24" barrel, or a 28" barrel? I guess just to have a spare. Also I have a Remington1100 3"mag. Now the 1100 will need some work done to it. The gun itself is in great shape. The stock and forearm are in very good shape but I would change them out due to the gloss on em, the barrel will need to be cleaned and polished, then buy a choke "Hay maker more than likely". From there... after that I may have to send it off to have the forcing cones lengthened " don't know till I shoot it". After all of this I will have one of two things, either a 3" automatic that shoots really well, or a 3" automatic that shoots so-so. I know the 835 will shoot after a good barrel cleaning and polishing, so I know I would be money ahead there. My problem is I don't know what to do. I like the sound of an auto but I also like the sound of another 835. Lets just say the 835 will be $400.00-$500.00 after the gun, sling, recoil pad, and possibly adjustable sights. The 1100 I figure $100.00 for the stock and forearm, $30.00 for the sling studs, $50.00-$75.00 for the choke, $30.00 for the sling, then I imagine around $100.00 for the forcing cones. Which totals up to $220.00-$320.00 for either a good gun or below par gun. What are yalls thoughts on this. Thanks for your help and input.
Get a 935 it is an auto loading 835. Best of both worlds.

I have thought about that, but none of the stores around here carry them. I've thought about ordering one, but beings that I haven't ever held one I don't know what it would feel like against my shoulder.
My opinion is ... since you have so many 12ga guns.... is to take a different approach and try a Mossberg SA-20 turkey Thug ( 20ga auto)
I'm a big fan of this gun.. puts up great numbers too. I was 12ga gun guy until I got this gun... I won't ever use any of my 12ga guns again now. smaller, light weight.. a joy to carry in the woods.

You might want to consider getting a 28" barrel and see how it works for you.

I would probably "deep clean" the bore and invest in a good turkey choke to see how your gun patterns, before having any additional work done on it or changing out the "furniture". One of the best turkey hunters I've ever known used one of those guns, blue barrel, gloss stock and all.
I'd also recommend that you take a look at the Mossberg 930. It's one of the best self-loaders I've seen. It's reliable, shoots great patterns and is very reasonably priced. I own many more expensive guns but frankly none that patterns any better than my 930.
Lastly, the suggestion of a 20 gauge gun is an excellent one. I'd recommend that you take a look at the Mossberg 500 full sized 20 gauge guns. They make a variety of models and they use the Win-Choke/Invector/Accu-Choke threaded chokes so you have a real variety of choices. That gun is drilled and all I've seen have excellent bores. I have one with the 26" barrel and it's definitely a shooter.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but how bout buyin a 28" barrel for your 835, if you don't like the number's that the 24" barrel puts up. And buy a Mossberg 935. Just a thought.
I have a 26" barrel on my 835,and I really like it
and it loves lead #5's and 4's
Get a good choke for the 835 and you should see 290 to 310 with the 7's. 675
Now the 1100 spend 35 for thread and then get a good choke. 660 to 665
