Title: 835 factory .695 choke ?
Post by: Crappiepro on May 31, 2013, 09:11:14 PM
Hey Guys, I got this new 835 Ulti-Mag with the factory .695 choke. I was wondering where to start on shot size and 3" or 3 1/2". Should I try lead or Heavy shot?
Where would be a good place to start?

I've got the same gun and factory choke.  If you want a good starting point then I would shoot what the gun is intended to shoot.  A 3.5" copper plated lead High Velocity Turkey round will tell you what it can do 'out of the box'.  Then you can have base reference at different yardages. And if you get a different choke or shot shell, you will always know if the gun gets better.  My 2 cents.

Shot my factory .695 choke with 3.5" magblends and averaged 200ish hits in the 10" circle.  This was with a 20" barrel.

My 835 really likes the .670 SSX, and hevi-13 3-2-7's. I get respectable killing numbers, and don't get pounded by the 3.5's to get them.
