Title: L.C Smith shotguns?
Post by: HoggleGobble on May 25, 2013, 11:57:42 PM
Has anybody ever heard of L.C Smith Shotguns? Going through some of my dads guns today and pulled out an old 12 ga side by side double barrel shotgun with full choke barrels. It has L.C. smith on it, and has two triggers. It has 1886 on it. Dad said he had it for over 30 yes and bought it from a 94 yr old
Man whose dad gave it to him when he was little. Said he won every turkey shoot he ever had. Interesting story after dad told me about it. Does anybody know anything about them? Guns looks in pretty good shape to be as old as dad thinks it is.

I've got a few L C Smiths in different grades. I use a field grade for bird hunting and only shoot trap or game load shells through it. A lot of the older guns were chambered for 2-1/2" shells. If that gun is a pre 1913, the steel in the barrels won't handle todays loads unless they're a soft trap load, so be very carefull if you ever shoot it.

These guys are all wet. Those are not good guns. I'll do you a favor and buy that old piece of junk off you and help you out. :-)
Seriously though... Lucky you! assuming it's not literally priceless I hope you find an occasion to hunt with with it, and its previous owners would smile down. Just be sure to check and use **only** shells / powder that are safe for use in the old gun.
