Are any of you call makers having any difficultly finding any dogwood for calls and strikers?

I searched a long long time before I found any, dogwood's natural state is that the tree will not get very big, and the wood itself is often curled and twisted, making it hard to find good straight grained wood for boxes, but once you find some that can be cut into 4" squares for pots or scratch boxes you had best grab it, green or not! I got mine from a local tree service outfit, they cut the trees and had a pile of them I went and cut the wood myself, (son inlaw) stored it till it was dry enough to use.

Check with Matt McClain.  He had some this spring for pot calls.

If you have ever heard of the dogwood legend, you may understand why its about impossible to find native dogwoods suitable for wood working.  Look it up, you may find it interesting..

I haven't.  It seems to fall in my lap for some reason. I never have really looked for it. I probably have enough dogwood to last me the rest of my life. I had to throw some away this winter due to it checking so bad could have only gotten strikers out of most of it but would have taken alot of milling so I let it go for the room it was taking.
