picked up a new shotgun today a benelli nova pump. shoots 2 3/4 to 3 1/2. its the black version with a 24 inch barrel. it was on sale. :z-guntootsmiley: this will be a great gun to go along with my supermag 870 remington. just wondering what would be a good choke to try with it. looking for any info on loads or chokes for this gun. thanks

First of all, congratulations. You have an excellent shotgun. I purchased the same gun with a 25" barrel many years ago. Your Nova is pretty much weatherproof with its plastic exterior and chrome-lined barrel. Just some moderate use of oil on the barrel exterior and interior moving parts is all that's generally necessary.
I would encourage you to deep clean the bore of your gun. That chrome-lined bore can look clean when indeed it has a good bit of gunk in it. That gunk will not prevent its function but it can negatively influence its patterning ability.
I've used a variety of chokes with my Nova. There are 3 which have worked especially well my my gun and those of my readers. The Wright's #3, the SSX and the Hevi-13 choke have all done an excellent job. These chokes have different "internals" but share some common factors that are important to performance. I think you'd be well served with either of those chokes.
Thanks,
Clark
I got a new one from a pawn shop a few months ago for a heck of a deal.
I deep cleaned the bore really well and I also made sure to tighten the cap down a few extra clicks past hand tight when I re-installed the barrel.
Out of a clean bore, using an ssx .643 choke, it shoots the Hevi 3.5" #6's extremely well.
It also shot to point of aim exceptionally well.
It shot so good, I never tried any other chokes or loads.......
I love the looks and feel of the Benelli Novas. I think they are a solid well built pump shotgun. I like the all black like the one you got. Super cool looking shotgun in my opinion. It should serve you well. I would try chokes in the .655 up to .670 range. Indian Creek or Pure Gold should be some good choices.
