Title: Toughest part of turkey hunting
Post by: Tomspur on May 11, 2013, 03:24:26 PM
The season in my state (Texas) has been over for only 11 days and I am already having withdrawals. Does anybody else  have the same problems.  Already I am thinking of statagies for next year. Its only 11 months and 20 days away. Can't wait.

It's rough, Our SC season went out 5-1 and me and a good buddy made a last minute OOS hunt to ease the DT's.....was a great time and we brought back 2 birds....now the real withdrawals begin.

I'm with you guys. If I could afford it. I would hunt every day somewhere until all the seasons were over. Here in Mi. we get one tag. I was fortunate enough to get mine on opening morning. April 22nd.but now I'm about to go crazy.Small game season doesn't open til Sept.15th. Whats a poor boy to do. Them groundhogs that raid my garden better lookout ,I think I hear one gobbling.

Its rough! In a week I'll start to slip in to a deep state of depression that can only be slightly numbed by buying more turkey hunting gear that i don't need lol

Been tagged out here since 5-2 and a long time till next year. Today is our last day and I got out this morning and drove to this field and sat in vehicle for about an hour--well at 8:00 decided to leave and was driving down this path leading out and this pine thicket on my left and a 500 acre pasture to my right and as I was slowly moving along, looked to my left, about 20 yds ahead and catch a glimpse of movement and there was a huge gobbler, a jake, and hen moving slowly alone into the pine thicket. I get even with them and come to complete stop, and they just stand there looking at vehicle...no more than 15 yds. from me. the tom is one of biggest birds I have seen...dead or alive. Watched him walk away, stopping every few steps and looking back..at least 10-12 inch beard and I would guess 21 to 24 lbs. What was so impressive was his height and large head...wish I had got a picture and I did with phone camera but he was getting so far away that is not plain. But what a memory to live with till next year. Chances are he will make it through this season it being the last day. Have not seen this bird all year--never knew there was one of this size on this property.

Road trip up north.  Pa and NY go out at the end of May.  Lots of public ground.

Just wean yourself off with some yote hunting but then again u will have a whole new addiction. But atleast u won't be withdrawing. Haha or u could just go out in the morning and call them in and video them that's just about as good as shooting one because u no u could of shot him or call some in for ur buddies that are just getting started.

When your turkey season is over, take your camera and your calls and carry on with your Turkey hunting
