Title: Loud box call recommendation
Post by: troutfisher13111 on May 02, 2013, 06:08:51 AM
I am looking for a new box call. Something really LOUD. Similar to the boat paddle in that it sounds like crap up close, but calls in the toms from a farther distance than anything else. The difference being I need it smaller and more compact so it fits in my vest easily. Any ideas?

You sort of answered your own question, in my opinion.  I carry a Mini Boat Paddle from Quaker Boy.  Small, compact, doesn't sound great up close but has that high pitch that not only carries a long distance, but also cuts the wind quite well.

I believe they're technically out of production, but if you visit their website they can still be ordered as "an old favorite," or catch one on eBay. Cost should be in the $15-20 range.

Kenny Morgan's scratch box was like that. I have one from Enticer Calls that is pretty loud, too.
