Title: Cape question
Post by: holtspur on May 01, 2013, 10:24:40 AM
Well this my first post on here so here goes. I am doing my first cape. I got cut out easily enough but I had a thin layer of meat at front where I started cutting and some small bits of fat scattered. I tried but couldn't scrape it off. I buried it under a mountain of salt and am goin to shake that off today and put borax on it since it supposed to be better. Will it be okay with the meat once it dries? I counted on letting it dry for a month or longer.

The borax should make the meat come off easier after it dries a day or so. I have been working a cape also.

I dont let mine dry out completely before i get e meat off. Borax seems to make the meat come off better after it sits a bit.  I am planning on using a wire wheel to flesh it.  I am not an expert in this. Maybe someone else will chime in. Bugs dont come into play unless you leave meat. Anything little that is left the borax should dry it up to not much of anything.
