Well I finally made it to the beautiful Black Hills this past week. My brother, brother-in-law and myself were all fortunate enough to tag out in three days of hunting. I wanted to share this pic of the bird my brother-in-law killed. No wing barring at all just black. I was wondering if any of you had any idea of what type of color phase this is. Definitely something I've never encountered.
I wish he picture was bigger, but I have not seen a bird with that coloring before!

Well, he is from the Black Hills-maybe has something to do with location? :camohat: Cool bird. I saw one very similar this year in Illinois, but didn't get a shot at him, had to shoot his buddy.
