Went out to my land this morning, not with very high hopes. Been in there 3 times this spring, and seemed to be only hens and jakes. At 5:50 I here a total of 4 gobblers sounding off. 3 seemed like strong long beard gobbles and one sounded like a jake. I headed for the closest strong gobbling bird. He was at the base of one ridge and I set up half way down a faceing ridge. I give a few soft yelps and he answered right away. I just waited then and he gobbled a few more times as I was waiting on fly down time. Things got quiet and all of a sudden he gobbled right below me. I clucked on my glass call and he double gobbled. I knew then that he was coming. Gun up and waiting, I was thinking to my self/ man this is a bad setup, I can only see about 25 yards out in front of me. Then I see that white head coming. He stopped behind a big tree and strutted. I just waited at the ready, then he stepped out and I ended the show. 20 yard shot and it was only 6 :20 AM. I then went trout fishing and got 6 nice brown trout and about a 3 pound bass. Great day to be outdoors !!
