Title: Turkey nests: WHat are the chances?
Post by: fsu33952 on April 24, 2013, 08:27:28 PM
I might find one turkey nest every few years. What do you think the chances are of finding two nests on the same ridge within 75 yards are? I figure pretty slim.

That is awesome. My guess is its a good sign of how healthy the population is.

I have found them before. Found one that had been destroyed one time too. Don't know if by a predator or if by a gobbler that didnt' want the good times to end.

Well I thought I would provide you guys with an update on the nests. I went to the one that had the 12 eggs because I can see it without getting too close and scaring the hen. I slipped around and looked down there and she wasn't on the nest, so I went closer and something has eaten all the eggs. There were a few pieces of shells and a bunch of feathers in the nest and an egg that had been crushed from the outside in but about 75 percent intact laying about 8 feet away from the nest. Very disappointing. There are coyotes everywhere in this area..
