In the last week to 10 days the gobblers I've been on aren't very vocal at all...only 5-6 total gobbles on the roost and nothing on the ground. Saw a lone hen about 9 am and a silent gobbler just a little after that.
Went back at it about 2 and didnt leave till 7:30 called in 2 more hens one of which sat down in the dirt 10 feet from me and STRUTTED before she sat down... strange.... After she left I moved to another spot and called in yet another lone hen that makes 3 total for today. So my question is with all the lone hens and very little gobbling are they DONE??? seems a little early for them to be done one strange day in the woods for me for sure....
Last few weeks I haven't heard but 2 gobbles until Friday I heard several and Sat morning lots of gobbling and killed a gobbler at 8:10 who faught off a jake and Sun afternoon killed a bird that shock gobbled at a crow call around 1:30 and killed him a few hours later! Got my first opening week
Still hened up in middle tn. But Gobbling and strutting pretty good.
There not done. Just means some hens are starting to nest but there's still some with gobblers
must be some weird mix of lone nesting hens and henned up gobblers.... I wouldv'e thought they would've been a little more fired up today....
