Can't say enough about my kid hanging in there and not getting dissapointed with one of the most frustrating mornings I have ever spent in the woods. His sister got one in Kansas the opening morning of the Kansas youth season and we came close on Saturday morning but no shot. Sunday morning tested us both to the limit. Called in a very nice bird and I cost him the bird by not realizing how much lower his head was than mine. When I told him to shoot, he couldn't see the bird even though I could see it plainly. Turkey walked away without a shot being fired. Moved to another farm and I called in three birds and he shot one and it goes down dead flopping. Position his sister for a shot on one of the others that have started flogging the down bird. She takes a while getting on one of them and I am having fits trying to make them stand still. She shoots and misses and Will's bird jumps up and runs off and we don't find him.
We make a trip to urgent care--he is extremely allergic to poison ivy and his right eye is half shut. We get back from Springfield urgent care and I asked him if he wanted to go back out. He is mad at em at this point and says "heck yeah". It pays off and we get this bird.
