Went with John to a cypress swamp today.
Heard 2 gobbles earlier in the morning that didn't amount to anything.
Finally about 915 had one active gobbler was fairly close. He gobbled at hawks-- he gobbled at sandhill cranes and gobbled at our hen calls.
Finally looking straight ahead at a large group of cypress trees it appeared that one of the hundreds of cypress knees was actually moving. He gobbled several times and moved into position where he was looking straight at me and our decoys at about 60 yards away.
From that point on John had to take over with the calling as I was sort of handcuffed with his vision straight at me.
He eventually got into shooting range but then moved behind the Cypress Street cutting out my line of shot. Finally moved to the other side Of the tree and I had a short window space and was able to take the shot and finish off the hunt.
He was 16#
1 1/8" spurs
8 5/8" beard
Used 3.5 " Hevi 13 #6
Indian Creek choke
Browning 12 ga pump
