Title: Pattern Question
Post by: lvetgas on March 30, 2013, 02:48:55 PM
I bought a Sumtoy choke and patterned it with a Benelli SBE II today. The first shot was with 3 1/2" Hevi-shot #7 and the other shots were with Heavy dove loads.  The "sweet spot" seems to be high and to the right. I was using the factory bead sitting in a gobbler lounger. I am also a right handed shooter.

The pattern seemed very good and even. I did not take pictures since I was shooting a cardboard box. Is the gun really shooting high and to the right or is this do to recoil?

I plan on mounting a Speedbead mount with a Fastfire III. Do I use a lead sled to sight in the Fastfire or do I sight it in while sitting in my Gobbler Lounger?

Thats a common issue with benelli's. Get that fast fire mounted and the lock the gun down on that lead sled and get it dialed in.

Once you use a red dot you will never want to go back.  I love my red dot on my SBE 2.

If you have a lead sled use it.  Put the dot on the head.  Shoot.
Adjust the dot to where the center of the pattern hit.
Shoot again to confirm.
Repeat if needed.

If you use a lead sled don't put no extra weight on it

I guess that is what is confusing my thoughts. Do I need to set up the Fastfire by shooting how I would shoot the gun in the woods or on a shooting bench?

Set it up on the bench. Then test it from your hunting position to make sure everything is still on.

Could you explain why no extra weight. I have extra weight on mine but have always thought that this setup put a lot of stress on the scope. Is that the reason?
