Title: Jet or Grizzly
Post by: Preacher7 on March 28, 2013, 10:53:27 AM
Hey yall, i am looking hard in to making calls of my own and have a question for those of you who know what your doing, i want to make duck goose and turkey calls, a far as lathes go, is a jet going to be a better lathe than te grizzly? They are several hudred dollars more expensive and i was curious is it just paying for the name or for the quality? Thanks for your help, Preacher

I have 2 jet minis that have turned a couple of thousand calls and even more strikers.  You can't go wrong with them.  I have several Grizzly tools, but would suggest paying the difference for a lathe.  My Grizzly tools don't require as high precision/accuracy as my lathe.  You might check Rikon lathes as well.  I'd like to try one someday, but have no need since my Jets are running strong.

Look on craigslist and get yourself a nice used Jet.

Grizzly make a great tablesaw - but as for a lathe or shaper table - Jet.

My dad and I use grizzly lathes and love them! I've never used a Jet, but am thinking about getting a mini just to turn my sticks and trumpets on.
