Two calls I never leave the house without are a long box and a short box.
my vest has pockets for a short box, but how in the heck do yo guys carry your long boxes?
My longbox flops in the large pocket of my vest and at any given moment squeek ands quack at the most inopportune times.
Carry mine in a soft pouch/holster that loops onto my belt and has a lanyard to tie around my leg.
Works real well and the call stays quiet and protected.
:agreed:
My Snodgrass box rides in a soft camo pouch, and my new Billy Bush rides in a custom leather holster that also loops onto my belt.
Sometimes I will drop my long box into one of the big bellow pockets of the vest, here's how to keep it quiet:
Know those head lamps / flash lights with the stretchy fabric elastic straps that you wear on your head? I bought a really cheap one and cut the elastic strap off.
I then cut a about 3-4" long, and wrap it around the paddle at the center where it touches the sides of the box. I then put a couple drops of super glue on the strap after pulling it just tight enough to keep it snug on the paddle. Then I take a wide rubber band and double wrap that around the paddle and box handle.
When ready to call, pull the rubber band off and slide the elastic strap toward the screw end and call. That is far enough up toward the screw it never interferes with the paddle. When you are ready to move, slide it back down and put the rubber band back on. Never makes a squeak.
After awhile the elastic band picks up the chalk and becomes coated, which helps keep the box paddle chalked and ready.

Wrap a rubber band around the handle part a few times and it's pretty tight. Easy to take off and put back on. Keeps it quiet.
Ah, I just read the reply above me. Had to modify this. Sorry! LOL +1 for the rubber band! haha
:gobble:
Thank you all.
If it aint broke don't fix it I say. I'll keep using the rubber bands from asparagus/celery I get at the grocery store and a newspaper bag!
:D
..You might consider one of Jason Shaffer's long box holsters.. They're first rate.

..Can be worn either as a shoulder holster or from a belt loop.. He can set it up whichever way you prefer.
The vegetable rubber bands seem to be the perfect size to silence the box. I carry mine in my cargo pocket of my pants. Loop a rubber band thru the button hole, over the call paddle and then around the button. Keeps it quiet and secure.
I carry mine in a padded case in my closest. Back when I carried mine in the woods, I made a sort of figure eight out of the stiff velcro cable ties you get with computer cables. It slides on and off easily, holds the lid separately from the box and keeps it all tight.
