So, lets see it( or hear about it if you don't have pictures). Lets go with 40 yards, ten ich circle pellet counts, to keep the playing field level. I'm going to shoot the turkey thug ammo this weekend, hopefully that gives me the best I've ever shot. My best to date is 120ish with Winchester supreme HV 6s in the 3.5 inch shell. Is 200 possible? There's a guy on another forum I frequent claiming he gets 200 at 40 with federal premium 2.25oz 6s out of an 835 and a Carlson turkey choke. I'm skeptical, but I suppose it's possible.
At 40 yards,
Mossberg 935 24" barrel with Federal Premium Blue/Gold box 3.5/2.25/6 and the Ulti Full factory choke I am averaging 135. I will be getting a new choke this off season. The best is 148.
Remington 870 20 gauge 21" barrel Sumtoy Choke and Winchester Supreme 5's I am getting an average of 90. The best is 111.
Browning BPS 24" Stalker with Hastings 685 and old Federal 6's I am turning around 155 average. The best is 171.
Best 3"
Charles Daly maxi-mag, 24" barrel with .660 jellyhead - Fed. strut shok 3-1 7/8-6 = 144
Browning A-5, 26" barrel with .643 ssx - Win. super x 3-1 7/8-5 = 131
Best 3.5"
Baikal mp 153, 28" barrel with .660 Sumtoy - Fed. mag shok 3.5-2-5 = 138
Just bought more Fed. mag shok in 3.5-2.25-5 and 3.5-2.25-6 to try out, maybe this afternoon I'll get a chance to find out if I can better the 3.5" numbers.

My dad uses this gun and its hard to tell you how many birds he has missed at 15 to 25 yds. It is actually way to tight for the hunting we do around here, and personally I wish he would use one that was a little more open. I have changed my perspective personally and don't really want one for myself shooting over 100 in 10" at 40yds because I miss inside 20yds with a tight shooting gun. But it looks good on paper.

Well mine have changed. I deep cleaned the 935's barrel and three shots it went 142, 151, and 169 with Federal Pre-FCW 3.5" 6's and the Ulti-full choke. Can't wait to stick a Sumtoy, IC, or Kick's in it!

Man, that is strong. I'd also try some current shells, because some day the supply of the old Blue & Gold will run dry.

Luckily I bought a case of them about a month or so ago. I am going to buy another from the same guy. He sold me the first out of his store and the rest will be from his personal stash.
I am going to shoot some Winchester HV and Federal 2.25 ounce when the season is over.
Smart move.

All shot with a ventalator .655 choke. All shots at 40 measured yds. Tried Fed. thugs #6's and got 100 in 10" at 40 yds with ventalator choke. Iam sticking with the winchester shells!! cluck :)
While not my BEST pb pattern to date, but a very even, dense, hunting pattern by any definition, here's one from last spring out of my tricked out 835.
3.5/2/6 Fed. Grand Slam lead. 159/10" @ 40 yards. TG Smackdown .670 choke.
My BEST pattern with pb loads actually came from my 2nd 835 running the same, but older load through a PP Stardot. The choke now sits in the end of my old man's original '89 model 835 and that gun will print absolutely rediculous pb patterns with the #5 shot version of the same load.
Mine best so far is:
Benelli SBEII 26" barrel, kicks .655 gt choke, older lot Win HV 3.5" 5's, 131 in 10"@40
I only have 5 of those older shells left, bought a box of a newer lot to see if they shoot as good. Hopefully they do.
I cannot seem to find the picture, but my best is 147 from my Mossberg 835 using 3 1/2 Winchester XX 6's (red shells). The kicker is that my choke is just a Mossberg Extended XX full!
Ventilator, old school 11-87, unpolished barrel, win supreme 3x6, 40 yds, windy and 75 degrees.

That is whats up right there..turning that kind of pattern out of a true turkey gun with short 21" barrel and 3" shell. That is the best thing I have heard of out of 3" shells. Heard reports out of 3.5 6's in the 260-280 range with a little more punishment from the gun. I see other killer patterns in 4's and 5's LB that were shot with 3.5 shells but have gaps and I would imagine kick like a swamp donkey. That 211 in a 10" would have minimal gaps and much less recoil. Awesome.. That is the pattern I am pursueing with my 21" bbl 870/ Kicks .655/ Win LB 3" 6's. Shoulder is hurt. I believe I am going to get someone else to shoot my gun and see what it will do.
Shot the longbeards(3" #6) today out of my 870 28" with Ventilator choke.4 shots at 40 yds avg of around 180 in the 10".Moved up to 20 yds and had a very very tight pattern I would say was prob. 4,maybe 5 inches across.Since my 870 shoots pretty much dead on with the bead and I dont use sights, this close or closer it would be very very easy to miss. With the grey box winnies (3" #6)I still get a tight pattern at 20 but with much more forgiveness.Avg in the mid 120s at 35 yds with those.
Im beginning to think these longbeards arent for me and I may stick with the old grey box when using the 12 gauge.
rem 870 28 in star dot. Got 175 with comp-n- choke with a better pattern.
3" 870 26" barrel with a 655 ventilator, 3" LBXR 187, 189 only 2 test shots I've fired
SX3 with a Briley .665 choke & Winchester Longbeard #5's, at 40 yards it was too tight for me to hunt with. I don't count holes so I don't have that information. But Winchester Longbeards has the first truly adjustable turkey load. You could put a more open choke in it to allow a little forgiveness and still have an amazing 40 yard shell or you can stick with a tight choke and have at it. Super shell.
Best I ever counted was 213 with longbeard #6. I'm more than happy with that.
I justed got 237 at 40 yds.3" 6 turkey thug,535 20 barrel that was ported, and add a .660 indain creek .

Well, time for me to check back in here. I shot this past week with the Long Beards in my Benelli SBEII. I'm pretty happy with the results. At a lasered 41 yards(I allowed an extra yard for discrepancy) shooting 3.5in LB 6s, my Indian Creek .665 put up 264, 269, 272. Same shells and my Wright's No.3 .650 put up 269. Here's a couple pics.

Have you tried a regular full choke when using the LB's? May just be the ticket. I use my reg. full in my Browning when using Fed. FC lead loads and I am wanting to try the LB's and am thinking I will start with reg. full and 3" #5's.

mossy 835 LB xr #6s 3.5" 24" barrel with ssx choke I used a measured 40 yards, hit count was insane I had a hard time believing it myself ! Im not going to post the number, too many ppl will want to call it BS,but if you own a gun like this, polish the barrel out like clark says and you will see definate results!!
