Title: Has anyone tried.....
Post by: Jbird22 on February 07, 2011, 08:21:48 PM
...patterning HTL shot through a standard full choke (Rem 870)? I would think the #'s would still be better than lead #'s with a "tight" choke but have yet to put it to the test. I'm gonna try it this year since my shots are usually 30 yds or less (No, I'm not that great of a hunter, just what my terrain usually dictates). I'm just curious if anyone else has ever tried this and what your thoughts are after doing so.

Yes, I have fired Winchester XRHD #6 through my 835 factory flush full and modified chokes.  My impression was that I did not get good even shot distribution.  I think the difference is probably because the factory chokes do nothing to grab and slow the wad and the wad disturbs the shot string more.

I have not seen a pattern using the h13 7s that didn't look good. Those shells will make any choke look good so there is no doubt in my mind they would pattern nicely from a stock choke.

I have a .710 Factory full choke that came with my 835 that I bought in 1990
both the Hevi 13 and the Federal HW #7's do very well out of it

If I could be sure my shots would be inside 30 yds, you can bet I'd be shooting lead.

I been thinking about that also.
