Title: What numbers?
Post by: rdfirenut on March 06, 2011, 04:26:32 PM
What numbers should I be looking for?
What would be the minimum?
What size circle?
I've been shooting at 30yds.
And trying #4 & #5 & #6 in a 20ga.
And #6 & #4 in my son's 16ga.
And everything in .410 pistol.
I'm not into spending big bucks for
chokes and shells. I would rather
have to wait them out. More time than money, haha.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Use 1 pellet per square inch of surface area. Usually a 10" circle is desired.
For a 10" circle at 30 yards at least 80 pellets , preferably 100. Whatever the greatest distance is that you can get these numbers is teh maximum distance to shoot. Thus if at 35 yards you get 90 pellets you are in the pink at a 30 yard target . Know your distance to the target .

Area = 3.1416 x diameter squared
Example: 10"= 3.1416 x 25= 78.54
12" =  113.0976 or 113.1
14"  = 154
15"=    177

As for shot size try what you have to see what works best. You don't need fancy or expensive just know what you have and how to use it (really well).

Except it's radius squared.  Otherwise, right on!

You caught me there and thanks for the correction.

Area= Pi {3.1416}x radius squared

Pie are squared , hoecake are round . Who k-thunk that up?

 I know what you mean by more time than money. I have several after market chokes for my 20g and still shoot the fac. full. You really need to try a few different brands of shells. Some guns like one better than the other.    :anim_25:
