Title: Mossberg Maverick 88
Post by: CT Spur Collector on March 16, 2013, 02:16:12 PM
Has anyone ever drilled and tapped the receiver of one of these shotguns?

I have one in 20 gauge and would like to drill and tap for a Weaver base.

I know I could buy a saddle type mount but I prefer the Weaver base.

It looks like the alum is pretty thick and I was wondering if I should drill the entire way through the receiver or just the screw length plus a bit more??

Prior thanks!!

Reply to my own thread..hahaha.

Hey, if anyone wants to drill and tap this shotgun for a Weaver base, let me know it's easy.  The hardest part was trying to find a 8-40 tap. Had to order it from Midway.

I drilled the whole way through the top of the receiver, tapped it then used a little golf shaft epoxy on the inside to fill the holes. It turned out great.
